However, more than that, over the past few years, weather sealing and insulation technology has come on leaps and bounds, meaning there are myriad options to choose from, all of which can help improve the energy efficiency of your home. If you’d like to know more about different ways of warming up your freezing garage, head over to our last month’s article.

So, in this article, the team at Diamond Garage Doors will provide a breakdown of the different kinds of insulated garage doors, so you can decide which one works best for you.

Side hinged garage doors

Given that side hinged are often constructed of wood, this will give them a good insulation value from the get-go. Further, if they are installed to the exact specifications of the frame by a reputable company like us, they can be an excellent insulative choice.

Roller garage doors

Unfortunately, despite the utility and space-saving qualities of roller garage doors, their insulation values might not be quite as good as some of the rest. Given that roller garage doors are constructed from a large number of horizontal slats, it can be very difficult to generate a good insulation value. This is largely because, although small, there is a gap between each slat allowing wind and cold air to permeate the door. As such, if you wish to opt for a roller garage door, it’s important to ensure that you decide on a door with good weather seals and, ideally, with a big enough overlap between the slats themselves.

Sectional garage doors

Sectional garage doors, like roller doors, are split into a number of panels that glide back into the roof of the garage. However, instead of rolling into a cylinder, these larger panels shift back on a pair of tracks flush with the roof. Given that sectional garage doors are made up of around four panels instead of twenty, it’s easy to see how they can generate a much better insulation value. In fact, sectional doors arguably offer the best insulation value of any domestic garage door.

Up and over garage doors

You might think, since up and over garage doors consist of one panel as opposed to four or twenty, that this type of door will generate the best insulation value. However, this isn’t true. When the panel draws upwards into its open position, a huge gap is created around the frame, meaning that much of the insulative work it had been doing while closed is immediately undone.
